Glossy Girl of the Month: Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell: talented actress, funny, smart, bubbly and beautiful. Not to mention she’s married to the equally adorable and funny Dax Shepard and is mother to two adorable daughters. What’s not to like about this funny girl? Not much! So, when we found out that she will be the first-ever host for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 21, we were super excited. She’s one cool girl. So that’s why we are naming Kristen Bell our Glossy Girl of the Month this January.
The Detroit-born actress got her start in high school performing in plays through her school’s drama department. From there she went on to study theater at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She ended up leaving school early for a role in a Broadway production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. From there Bell left New York for California to try her hand in Hollywood. Success would not come right away for the actress, as she spent many years auditioning for small parts and landing short-lived roles. It wasn’t until 2004 that Bell would find her footing in the leading role of Veronica Mars. Veronica Mars was a show that found a fast cult following and lifelong fanbase. From there the actress went on to star on Heroes, another television hit. Simultaneously she took on lead roles in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Couples Retreat, When in Rome, and Get Him to the Greek.
Love and Family Life
It was during the filming of When in Rome that Bell met her now-husband Dax Shepard. To say that the couple have an honest, charming and funny relationship is an understatement.
Over the years the couple have been very open with the struggles they both face. She’s spoken candidly about his sobriety, her own issues of anxiety and depression and their initial breakup early on in their relationship. But their candor, humility and humor in dealing with their marriage and life are what seem to make them both relatable. The two vowed to not get married until same-sex marriage laws were passed in California. And they followed through on their promise. By the way–she proposed to him on Twitter! Their wedding, of which the vows have so far lasted longer than most in Hollywood, was a simple ceremony at city hall. Now the couple are parents to two young daughters: Lincoln Bell and Delta Bell.
“Bad Moms” and So Much More
Bell has continued on her path of career success, starring in Showtime’s House of Lives, Chips (where she costarred with her husband), the hilarious movie Bad Moms and its sequel Bad Moms Christmas, to name a few.
Her most recent work is in The Disaster Artist and NBC’s The Good Place with Ted Danson. What others might be surprised to learn is that Bell is also sought-after for her talents as a voiceover. She for years played the narrative voice in the cult hit Gossip Girl and played the voice of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen. Now she’s lending her voice to a new form of media in her latest venture, the murder mystery podcast entitled Deadly Manners with Anna Chumskly. The 1940’s-set who-done-it mystery series returns for a second season after a highly successful premiere.
Continued Success and First-Ever SAG Awards 2018 Host
In a recent interview with E! News, Bell said, “I have no big plans for what I’m going to do with my career. If people stop watching the things I’m in, I won’t have a career.” But we don’t think the actress will have to worry about this. Having just been named the host of The Screen Actors Guild Awards, it’s clear she’s a talent that both Hollywood and her fans would like to keep around. In a funny tweet addressing the announcement, the always-humble Bell was quite to make a joke. “I’ve been asked to host the SAG Awards 2018 this year, which means, to all my friends who’ve been nominated, I get to choose who wins.” That’s not how it works? Then what am I doing? Like, Anne Hathaway and James Franco did? I’m doing that? Why, did I lose a bet?”
We will be sure to be tuning in on January 21 to see our Glossy Girl doing her thing on the SAG Awards 2018.
