2016 is finally here and its possible some of us agile thinkers are already planning our 2016 goals and reflecting back on 2015.  For 2016, my goal is to find one thing that will maximize my health benefit while minimizing the effort required to achieve success. Some people may call this being plain lazy, enlightened people would reference this as simply efficient. Alas, for 2016, I am going to chug, guzzle, sip, tip, and bathe in a ton of water. Water has amazing benefits.  Like a good cheese it can magically blend things together.  Essentially, it will be my cheese in a typical “getting in shape” and “eating better” 2016 goal sandwich.  To get more specific, here are a few of the amazing benefits of H2O:

Crush calories and your appetite

Every diet out there recommends that you drink lots of water. Drinking water is a substitute for consuming calories and helps to process the calories you have already consumed. In many cases, it has also proven to suppress feelings of hunger and the related desire to binge on cheesecake.

Out with the bad and in with the good…

Our digestive system needs water to function properly. Waste is flushed out in the form of urine and sweat. If we don’t drink water, we don’t flush out waste and it collects in our body causing a myriad of problems. Clear urine is a good thing.

Oh mirror mirror on the wall…

The typical goals of eating better and working out have more to do with cramming our asses into skinny jeans and looking good than the long term benefit to our health. We aren’t spring chickens anymore and want to look and feel good. Water is unequivocally the most important element to keep your skin looking young, healthy, and glowing.  It can also improve dark circle under the eyes. Dehydration makes your skin dry and often wrinkly resulting in excessive drain of your bank account funding pounds of makeup.

So, with the benefits firmly planted, lets talk about the rigorous process required to drink more of this good stuff in 2016. It starts with:

Water

  1. Find a water container – having access to something that can carry your drink is key. Fortunately these can be found everywhere in the forms of glass, plastic, wood, steel, and paper bottles. Ok I made up the last one. If on the other hand you plan to go rock climbing you can also purchase a container that will withstand a fall of up to 1000 feet.
  2. Fill it with water – it’s amazing, water is everywhere. You can also find it for free in your sink or break room at the office.
  3. Drink – Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and even more if you’re exercising.  For the picky drinker – If you don’t like regular water, try adding fruit to your water to give it a better flavor. Lemons, oranges, pears, cucumbers are some of my favorite flavors. You can also purchase flavored water if that’s easier for you. Hint water is a good one and available in your local supermarket.
